Borgo Gortani: a 100-year-long story
1925
On November 21, 1925, a unique family story began with the purchase of the “Alla Posta” hotel by grandfather Giovanni Gortani. At the time, the building was not just a place for guests, it was the beating heart of the community, featuring a bar, a salt and tobacco shop, a small grocery store, and even a butcher shop. For 135,000 lire, the Gortani family laid roots in a property that then had 15 rooms, 4 bathrooms, and just one shower. That small, vibrant world on the ground floor, with its street-facing bar, was already a promise of warmth and hospitality.
1966
In 1966, the torch was passed to Gianpietro Gortani, son of Giovanni, who together with his wife Marcella, whom he had married only a year earlier, breathed new life into the hotel.
During those years, the family grew and was filled with joy with the arrival of Gianna (1963), Gianpaolo (1964), Andrea (1968), and Chiara (1984).
Managing the hotel became a labor of love, woven into the days and dreams of a family building its future around this cozy retreat.

1976
The 1976 earthquake brought challenges, but also rebirth. Piece by piece, the hotel was rebuilt with dedication and courage. It was during this time that rooms were upgraded with private bathrooms. The roof was raised and a new attic floor was added, bringing new rooms and a vision that looked upwards, towards a brighter future.

1994
1994 marked a major transformation. The hotel expanded into the inner courtyard, adding a modern panoramic pool, a spa, and a renovated dining hall, symbols of ever more refined and thoughtful hospitality. In this phase of growth, 20 new rooms were added, offering guests even more space and comfort for total relaxation.
2005
In 2005, hospitality expanded again with the launch of Residence Samont, born from the patient restoration of a historic abandoned dwelling in the charming locality of Samont above Arta Terme.
After four years of renovation, the residence opened with 8 fully furnished apartments offering every comfort and overlooking the valley, providing families and groups an intimate, panoramic space that truly feels like home.

2025 - 100 years of history
Borgo Gortani: a new beginning, 100 years later
On May 29, a new chapter in Carnia’s hospitality begins: Borgo Gortani is born, an evolution of the historic Grand Hotel Gortani in Arta Terme, celebrating its centenary with a fourth star and a vision for the future.
A century after its founding, the property is reborn with a new name, a broader vision, and an even warmer spirit.
Borgo Gortani represents a concept of widespread hospitality: diverse spaces united by a single purpose, to welcome the land, the people, and the emotions.
The new slogan, “Many Doors, One Welcome,” captures exactly that: a village that welcomes in many ways, but always with the same warmth.
